Process of Membership
The main way a prospective member initiates this process is by coming forward during the invitation at the close of a service.
The person will share their decision and desire of membership with the pastor or designated other.
The Church Clerk or a person from the congregation will come to the front and assist the person in completing the information on a decision card.
The pastor will introduce the person to the congregation at the end of the service.
The pastor or staff will contact the person making a decision within that week, give them a copy of the Membership Information Manual, and explain the Membership Process. Emphasis will be given on the importance of reading the Membership Information Manual, completing the Membership Covenant form, and attending the next New Member 101 Class.
For those professing faith in Jesus Christ, a follow-up visit will be made by the pastor and/or staff and a date for baptism will be scheduled. The person’s baptism will serve as their official entrance into the church membership. They will be encouraged to attend the New Member 101 Class and sign the Membership Covenant.
The prospective new member is asked to attend New Member 101 Class and complete the Membership Covenant. If, for some reason, the prospective member cannot attend a New Member 101 Class, the pastor and/or staff will make an interview visit, share the membership information, and receive the Membership Covenant.
The names of the prospective members will be presented during the regular monthly business meeting for approval as members of the First Baptist Church in Carthage, Tennessee. The person will become an official member on a majority vote of the members present at the business meeting. The person does not have to be present for the vote.
